For the sixth year running, the University of Nebraska at Kearney this fall offered its Venture Adventure program to area high school students, and six Pleasanton youth were quick to sign up for the challenge.

The Adventure, says Pleasanton technology educator Jacqui Garrison, is designed to help students both practice and discover their entrepreneurial skills and interests while engaged in a variety of activities that simulate the real-world pressures of the world of entrepreneurship.

In the interests of realism, and in order to provide students with practical experience around which to wrap entrepreneurial theory, students at the Adventure created and “operated’s? their businesses for a day.
Awards were given to the student teams that most successfully mastered the difficulties and challenges of the process.

Among the scenarios encountered by the Venture participants were creating a new service, manufacturing, or retail business venture, obtaining a loan from real bankers, selecting a location and negotiating a lease, and analyzing an ethical dilemma encountered by a new business owner.
